Terms and Conditions for Tutoring

01 Parties

Service provider: Ruben Sønstabø Johanssen, trading as RubenMatte.

Customer: the person purchasing tutoring hours, either for themselves or on behalf of a student.

02 Package content and validity

A package consists of prepaid tutoring hours (6, 12 or 18 hours of 60 minutes each). Individual sessions can also be purchased without a package.

• Hours must be used within 12 months of the purchase date. Unused hours after this period are non-refundable.
• Sessions are scheduled on an ongoing basis and can be held online or in-person by agreement.
• Hours can be shared freely between everyone in the same household.

03 Payment

Payment is made either at the start or by separate agreement. Packages are normally paid in full at the time of purchase. Invoices are issued with a 7-day payment deadline, unless a different payment arrangement has been agreed in writing.

04 Free trial session

The first half hour is free and non-binding. It can be taken as a short standalone online session, or as the first 30 minutes of a full session. In the latter case the remaining time is charged as normal. There is no obligation to continue afterwards.

05 Cancellation and rescheduling

Cancellations or rescheduling are made via SMS or email as early as possible.

06 Add-ons

Travel, preparation, day and time-of-day add-ons are always agreed in advance and apply only where relevant and agreed upon. Add-ons are combined where multiple apply. Normal tutoring hours are Monday–Thursday 14:00–18:00.

07 Price changes

RubenMatte reserves the right to change prices and rates. Changes do not apply to packages already paid for, which retain the price agreed at the time of purchase.

08 Teaching approach and progress

RubenMatte prioritises understanding over speed and adapts teaching to each student's level and goals. Goals are set at the start of the tutoring relationship and reviewed regularly.

Progress depends on the student's effort, starting point and time available. RubenMatte does not guarantee specific grade outcomes.

If the teaching approach is not perceived as satisfactory, this will be raised directly and adjusted where possible. The goal is always for the student to experience progress and master mathematics better.

09 Ending the arrangement

Either party may end the arrangement at any time.

• Retainer agreements (section 10) are subject to separate termination rules instead of this section.
• If the arrangement ends within the withdrawal period, the provisions of section 11 apply.
• Once the right of withdrawal has expired, unused hours in a package are non-refundable, but may be used by another person in the same household before the expiry date.
• If RubenMatte ends the arrangement for reasons not caused by the customer, unused hours will be refunded on a pro-rata basis.

10 Retainer Agreement

As an alternative to packages, the customer and RubenMatte may agree on a fixed weekly or multi-weekly tutoring slot (a "retainer"). This section applies in addition to the other terms, with the exception of section 9 – for retainer agreements, the cancellation rule in this section applies instead.

• Price: 489 kr per completed hour, in addition to applicable add-ons (section 6).
• Invoicing: monthly in arrears, based on hours actually used. No advance payment.
• Frequency is agreed freely (e.g. weekly or every other week) at the same price.
• The agreement runs on an ongoing basis with no minimum commitment period.
• Termination is given in writing and takes effect at the end of the following month.
• Cancellation of an individual session follows the table in section 5.
• In the event of repeated cancellations, RubenMatte may, after written notice, pass the fixed weekly slot on to other students. The customer then loses that time slot, but will be offered a new time if RubenMatte has capacity available.
• During Norwegian school holidays (autumn, Christmas, winter, Easter, summer) and on public holidays (1 May, 17 May, Ascension Day, Whit Monday), no tutoring takes place, unless otherwise agreed in advance by both parties. The slot remains reserved for the customer after the holiday, but RubenMatte may temporarily offer the time to other students during these periods if the customer does not wish to have tutoring then.
• A retainer agreement takes effect only once the customer has confirmed this section in writing.

11 Right of withdrawal

The customer has a 14-day right of withdrawal from the date of purchase in accordance with the Norwegian Right of Withdrawal Act. The customer may consent to tutoring beginning within this period. If the right of withdrawal is exercised after sessions have been completed, the customer pays for those completed hours and the remaining amount is refunded. Once the withdrawal period has expired, the purchase is binding and remaining hours are non-refundable.

12 Disputes and complaints

Any disagreements shall first be sought resolved amicably between the parties. If this does not lead to a resolution, the dispute may be brought before the relevant consumer authorities or courts in accordance with Norwegian law.

13 Copyright

All content produced by RubenMatte – including teaching materials, website texts and graphic content – is protected by copyright and may not be redistributed, copied or used commercially without written permission.

14 Privacy

Name, email and phone number are used solely to administer the tutoring relationship and are not shared with third parties.

Feedback submitted with consent may be used anonymously as a testimonial on the website.
